What we offer

Treatment for eating disorders

We work with children, adolescents, adults and older adults across the full range of eating, weight and shape concerns.

This includes those that meet diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, and those with less recognised eating disorders such as binge-eating disorder, purging disorder, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder or ARFID (extreme fussy eating typically in childhood).

We have a particular focus on early intervention for those with an early form of an eating disorder that may not meet official criteria. This may look like meal skipping, reduction of the amounts or types of food eaten, unexplained weight loss, heightened concern with body shape/size, excessive exercising, or eating large amounts of food in a short period of time. Our focus on these early cases is driven by clear research evidence showing that prompt engagement with specialist treatment results in faster treatment response, and therefore lessened impact on life.

In the interest of increasing access to specialist private care, we offer a low cost treatment package for those with non-underweight eating disorders (e.g. Binge eating or Bulimia Nervosa) - email hello@nurturepsychology.co.nz for further details.

Eating disorders rarely occur in isolation. As we aim to support the whole person in their recovery to wellness, we are also skilled in treating concerns that often co-exist with an eating disorder such as anxiety, depression & trauma, and behavioural traits that can become unhelpful such as perfectionism, cognitive rigidity & low self-esteem

Treatment for anxiety disorders & mood concerns/depression

We provide treatment for anxiety and mood concerns, where these are present alongside an eating disorder.

Anxiety disorders & mood disorders such as depression are common mental health problems that can occur at any point across the lifespan. It is typical for these difficulties to come

While it is natural and normal for our mood, anxiety and stress levels to fluctuate in response to the demands of daily life, sometimes emotions can escalate beyond our typical experience. These symptoms may be a small or early concern for you, or they may be having a more notable impact on daily functioning.

We provide integrated psychological treatment for those struggling with mild to moderate anxiety and/or mood concerns, alongside eating disorder work. For every client, we tailor psychological work to your unique situation and goals, in order to support you toward psychological wellness & resilience.

Our psychologists have particular expertise in:

  • Anxiety disorders including both generalised anxiety and more specific forms such as social anxiety, health anxiety, phobias, OCD, and PTSD

  • Depression & other mood disorders

  • Adolescent/teenage mood, anxiety, and adjustment/developmental difficulties
